In the summer of 2014, the staff members at Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc. developed the dream of bringing a craft beer festival to their beloved community. A planning committee was formed, logistical details were determined, and a date for the first Waynesboro Brewmaster Beer Festival was set for Saturday, May 15, 2015.
A total of 18 breweries were represented at the inaugural event, which attracted a crowd of nearly 1,000 people to the Grove-Bowersox Parking Lot. Those who attended had a truly wonderful experience, and they were thrilled to have an opportunity to enjoy themselves over the course of a few hours without leaving Waynesboro.
Not only was the beer festival entertaining, it was also educational. In an effort to make this particular event a bit different than others, most of the participating breweries were asked to have representatives in attendance to discuss the product, pass along information and answer any questions that members of their inquiring audience may have. A few of the actual brew masters who create the beers came to Waynesboro to discuss their respective journeys into the business and why they are passionate about their products.
One of the most impressive aspects of the event was the community support that Mainstreet Waynesboro received in the weeks leading up to it. Not only were funds received from a variety of generous sponsors, but several businesses provided in-kind donations such as fencing, tents, toilets and ice. Nearly everyone who was contacted played a part in making this dream become a reality.
Now, organizers are preparing to build on the last four years success by scheduling another festival in town on Saturday, May 18, 2019. This years event will expand to include wineries and cideries, and will be held at a new location at the Main Street Park, located at 25 East Main Street. We invite you to help share in what will likely be another unforgettable afternoon in the heart of downtown Waynesboro.
